Dr. Henry Dorn, III

Dorn is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has a BS in psychology from the University of South Carolina. He was one of approximately 50 students accepted to the Medical Scientist Training Program (MD/PhD) at the Medical University of South Carolina where he completed his doctoral coursework in molecular biology and two years of research. He completed his MD at the Medical University of South Carolina and worked with midwives during his residency at Albany Medical Center.

After completing his residency, Dorn joined a practice in High Point that had a freestanding birth center and midwifery practice in order to continue working with midwives. He did a sabbatical in New Zealand where he worked as a consultant OBGYN, the highest level medical position in the UK-based system, collaborated with about 30 midwives who were responsible for well-woman OB care in the region, and directly cared for high risk OB patients.

Today, Dorn’s patient-focused, solo OBGYN practice is located in High Point, NC. The practice specializes in urogynecologic and minimally invasive gynecological procedures including In-office Essure permanent sterilization and endometrial ablation procedures, Thermachoice and Novasure. Dorn’s was the first practice in North Caroliina to perform the gold-standard Thermachoice (J&J Gynecare) endometrial ablation procedure in the office setting to permanently treat women with heavy menstrual bleeding, thereby avoiding hysterectomy. He was also the first practice in the state to perform the Essure tubal occlusion procedure (permanent birth control) in the office.

Dorn actively works with midwives in the community and the NC Friends of Midwifery to help pass legislation to extend midwifery care in NC. He resides in High Point with his wife and three children.
